Pinch Cabaret #38
Sat Mar 29, 2025 - 8pm

Hosted and curated by 200 year old tortoise Ben Gorodetsky. Expect the unexpected!

Featuring:

  • Grace Scheele is an unconventional artist noted for her innovative take on experimental and ambient forms. She masterfully interweaves harp rumblings, cinematic drones, textural loops, and candid tape confessions into music that celebrates that liminal ‘in-between’; a place of question, blank existence, or wonder. For Pinch, anticipate cassette confessionals mixed with punchy, drifty, emo-ambient harp.

  • Lucy Winkle is a Second City alumnus, touring stand up comedian, co-host of the Hamiltonian live variety show COSMIC SOUP! Prepare for slapstick, but make it Italian.

  • Becky Johnson is an award-winning writer, actor, improviser and comedic performer who has now been at it for just over thirty years. She is currently finishing up her first collection of poetry about life, death and dirt on the Salish Sea. Jamey Rosen is a geologist and pianist based in Guelph. He accompanied short form comedic improv right here in Waterloo in the early '90s and now performs and records in musical theatre and with the "plunk rock" band Probable Cause. Together they are Becky & Jamey, a project of ephemeral improvised performance poetry that breathes to life the collective unconscious of whatever audience is gathered with them on any given night.

  • A Horse Named Friday is a freak folk group from Kitchener Waterloo, with intricate arrangements, heavy dynamic range and soothing melodies built for catharsis. For pinch, they’ll be playing a few songs with a unique arrangement of stringed instruments for a more intimate and stripped down set.

  • Brenda Mabel Reid (they/them) is a trans non-binary multi-disciplinary artist with a social practice working across textile, print, sculpture, installation, and audio. Their work explores societal power imbalances, including issues around property, queer space, and the ‘justice’ system. For Pinch, they will perform a sound installation live, exploring family dynamics, intergenerational gifts, trauma, and memory.
