Pinch Cabaret Pinch #30
Sat May 18, 2024

Created and curated by local yokel Ben Gorodetsky, this special edition will be guest-hosted by comedian Aashay Dalvi & drag queen Sasha Tease. Get ready for a diverse bill that will surprise and delight audiences while bringing together disparate artistic communities!

Featuring:

  • Saffron A is a singer songwriter that has refined their art annd performance over the past 8 years, and Saff the Sapphic is the drag persona they have been exploring for 1. Let’s see what happens when these identities merge! For Pinch The Manliest Man in KW is bringing you two songs about trucks, and one about love!

  • Jesse gARTh is a multidisciplinary circus artist who loves to entertain. He has two beautiful daughters and a partner who's bought a life-long ticket to the Jesse Show. For Pinch he will present "Bottle Time", which is inspired by Jesse's baby Violet Rose, already a great performer.

  • Directed by Mads Andrews (she/they) and written by Alanna Schwartz (she/her), Church4Kidz is a puppet play about the loss of faith and discovery of self in the life of a retired Sunday School puppeteer. The play has everything: songs, puppets, weed, and blasphemy! They’re excited to perform a scene at Pinch and hope you catch the whole show at Hamilton Fringe the last two weeks of July!

  • Nathaniel Voll (he & they) is a writer, actor, arts educator and visual artist living in the Willow River watershed (Kitchener). Nathaniel's art positions the individual as a vital part of a larger system, community or superorganism, creating fantastic worlds which challenge the norms of our own. In addition to displaying visual art around the cabaret space, Nathaniel will perform poems and tell stories which are sure to make you smile, reflect, or at least forget about your phone for a couple minutes.

  • Meesha is a former film and theatre actor who's main acting job these days is limited to voicing the characters of the Dog Man series while reading to her son at bedtime. The last play she participated in was on International Women's Day in March 2020, right before the Pandemic so she admits she is a little rusty, but happy to get back involved in the acting world. For Pinch #30 she'll perform a short piece written back in August 2023, as her creative juices began thawing out again. It's called "Letter to Tom".

  • Kye Stevenson Hatayama (he/him) is a uwaterloo student who moved here from Tokyo, Japan. He is currently enrolled in the fine arts program and is dabbling in visual arts and filmmaking, while working for the theatre department. Kye will be presenting his visual artwork for the Pinch Cabaret.

  • Co-Host Aashay Dalvi (they/them) are the founder of Rad Riot Books, a radical online bookstore based in Kitchener-Waterloo that prioritizes queer, migrant, and translated anti-racist literature. They are a queer advocate and activist and have performed standup comedy across the GTA at Glad Day Bookshop, SoCap Comedy and Tammy's Comedy Nights in Toronto and at Pinch Cabaret, Together We're Boisterous and Drag Open Stage at AOK in Kitchener-Waterloo. They are also a playwright, writer and performing artist who recently finished their second artist residency at the Registry Theatre with Pinch's own, Ben Gorodetsky. They previously hosted the Rainbow Reels Queer & Trans Film Festival in K-W.

  • Co-Host Sasha Tease aka the nonbinary bombshell is a local drag queen and community organizer!  A dancing diva and host extraordinaire, who is obsessed with creating more queer spaces!
